The Dress
This dress-making consumed my entire Saturday, this past weekend, and its "adorableness" consumed one little 4 year old.
She just could not wait till Easter …so it was worn Palm Sunday…and several times more…and it's been hand-washed and hung to dry 3 times…and she will wear it once again, on Sunday…Easter.
She resembles a creme puff.
I am overwhelmed by her sweetness, the instant this dress pops over her head.
Thank you Alicia Paulson (of Posie gets Cozy blog) for introducing us to this vintage simplicity pattern…and Liberty of London fabrics….and your example of sewing darling little dresses for the darling little girls in our lives.
I realize the number of photos is phenomenal …I could not help myself.
This is why the sewing consumed the day…the entire. day.
While I have her hold up the dress for the length..fit..etc….she breaks into singing
…ever so softly…
"Peace and Homminy…in awwww da wuld…"
and then says..
"I wearned dat fum Peppa…"
I try desperately, to concentrate…I really do… but there's this knocking and chattering at the door into the playroom/studio/sunroom…
"Hi, Miss Cupcake! I have uh da-wivery!"
Finally…the zipper installation. We're getting close..
The afternoon is turning into evening…Sophia must must have her dress for "Sunny School" in da morning.
I pop popcorn…we watch Winnie the Pooh…and I hem and add elastic to the sleeves…
And I press the seams and hems…and I remember the woodettes I rescued and repainted.
Here is Alice…
and we had to have a Huffy Dumpy!
And just like that…
It is finished…
I'm exhausted …and exhilarated…
I learned so much…and can't wait to make another…now that I have this "first" under my belt.
She LOVES it!
And she twirls…
and she plays with her Humpty Dumpty (makes me a bit sad that she's learned how to say his name properly)…
She loves how he fits just right, in her little hand…
Alice is a bit fragile…
but Phia dolly is juuuust right…
She loves her Phia Dolly...
I love My Sophia Dolly…
I have to pull the dress off of her and replace it with a nightgown.
Next morning…it's on again…and we're off to "Sunny School"
Must have "Wip Gwoss" for it's the only thing that will fit in the tiny purse…
church/lunch/nap…and then we're ready for a walk into town…on this Gorgeous Palm Sunday.
Jesus loves this little one…this I know…
For the Bible tells me so…
Little ones, to Him belong. They are weak,
but He is strong…
so thankful for the strength in this man that holds this little hand…
Warmly,
Grammy Christie and Sophia and Big Daddy
P.S….Sophia loves her Miss Maggie Rabbit (softie kit by Alicia Paulson) and is finally enjoying her dress and boots and knitted shawl I made for her Christmas of 2013. Alicia has the most wonderful things in her web store.
